Sonya Visser is a multi-talented, award-winning musician and academic with over 35-years of experience as a highly-respected music educator, composer, adjudicator, and live performer.
She is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of music, Griffith University with a Master of Music Studies, majoring in piano pedagogy. Sonya also holds a Licentiate diploma in piano performance from the Trinity College of London, as well as the Australian Guild of Music Education.
As a student, she was the recipient of several awards including being the national winner of the Yamaha Festival, and receiving the exhibition award with the AGMED for top marks in Australia for her Grade 8 and Proficiency Certificate level.
Sonya is a unique music educator in that her knowledge and expertise covered classical music from an early age to licentiate level, while also developing extensive knowledge and skills in contemporary music practice and theory.
Sonya worked as a Keyboard clinician for Yamaha music Australia in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia in the 80’s
When she is not teaching piano at her studio in North Lakes, Queensland, she is an examiner for the Australian Guild of Music (AGMED) and has taught piano at St Paul’s School in Bald Hills for over 20 years.
Sonya has a consistent track record of successfully preparing students for early levels diplomas with an impressive 100 per cent pass rate, also with a majority of candidates passing with honours or distinctions.

Glennis Carter–Varney (born 12 May 1938) is a highly educated, accomplished, and celebrated Australian music educator, examiner, composer and performer.
Glen was born in country Victoria, Australia, and commenced her musical life at the tender age of three. By age twelve she had gained her associate diploma and was offered a scholarship to study piano under Waldemar Seidel at the Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music.
While at the conservatorium she studied music composition under John Ingram and Bernard de Oliviera and music theory under J.A. Steel. During this time she was awarded two conservatorium exhibitions.
In the 1970s, she continued her studies under Norah Newby at the Royal Academy of London, where she received her LRAM (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music).
During the ’60s and ’70s, along with her then-husband Jack Carter, the duo would regularly appear on Channel 9’s Bobby Limb’s The Sound of Music, Graeme Kennedy’s In Melbourne Tonight, as well as being finalists on Australian TV’s talent show Showcase.
She has performed concerts and given workshops in Australia and the USA, and has a number of recordings to her credit, some of which have been used by the ABC and commercial radio stations.
Glen has compiled over a staggering 80 years of music and piano knowledge in a range of publications that are listed in numerous piano exam syllabi, such as the AMEB, AGMED, Australia and New Zealand Cultural Arts (ANZCA), and The Saint Cecilia School of Music.

The Recital Collection includes three piano solos for advanced assessments and consists of the titles:
- The Artamidae
- Shades of Blue
- Sonic Fantasy
The Artamidae was written for the Keys National Piano Competition, held at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
The composition won first prize and was performed by the winner of the 13 years and under division by Glen’s grandson, Andrew Visser. She is currently an examiner for the Australian Music Examination Board and has conducted the workshops for Contemporary Popular Music for AMEB Queensland.

Antony Visser and Antonix Music
Antony Visser of Antonix Music is a talented, award-winning multi-
instrumentalist, composer and music educator, who has had many years experience as a live performer.
He graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University with his BMus degree in jazz trombone performance.
In 2014, he received an exhibition from the Australian Guild of Music Education (AGMED) for his CMusAGM contemporary piano examination, receiving the top marks in Australia for that year.
Antony teaches both piano and trombone to musicians at all levels be it at the beginning of their musical journey or advanced musicians.
His experience with live performance also makes Antony the perfect teacher for
students wishing to deal with performance anxiety and assist in the development of
stage performance flare and musicianship skills.
In 2018, Antony and five other graduates from the Qld Conservatorium formed a funk-jazz band called “Antonix”. The band released their debut album Haphazard Rebellion in January of 2020 and continues to gain followers on Spotify, Apple Music, and other popular music platforms.
When Antony is not working as a freelance session musician, composer and music educator, you will find him passionately fronting Antonix playing contemporary jazz-funk to entranced audiences in the Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast regions.
